Types Of Network Devices

In this post I am going to tell you about some important devices used in networking. Let us see what are the different devices used in the network?

1.  Network Interface Card (NIC) :

NIC The full form of Network Interface Card is. A network interface card is a type of expansion board that is inserted into a computer to connect a computer to a network. Most network interface cards are designed for a specific type of network, protocol, and media, although some cards are also used across multiple disparate networks.

2. Network Operating System :

The network operating system is known as NOS for short. It is a type of operating system that has some special functions to connect computers and other devices to the local area network. Some operating systems such as Unix already have networking functions.

The term network operating system is generally used to refer to similar software that adds networking features to a basic operating system. Microsoft Windows Server and Windows N. T. are examples of this.

3. Bridge :

Through this, two local area networks (LANs) can be interconnected only if their software is of the same type and the computers are of different types. Once the two lanes are interconnected through the bridge. If connected through the port, then various devices are easily connected with each other. The bridge works mainly at the dialyk level. When the number of nodes is large, the speed of data transfer decreases, a solution to this is the bridge, which interconnects the different LANs.

4. Hub :

This works to connect the wires in different computers to a common point in the network. In other words it is the central control device in the star network. It is a rectangular box with several holes for plugging in, called ports. In these ports the wires of all the computers connected to the network are connected. There are mainly three types of Dumb Hub, Intelligent Hub and Smart Hub.

5. Routers :

These are used when very complex networks are to be interconnected. For example, if data is to be sent through the Internet Protocol, then it is necessary to have the same protocol. The level, computer and the software in them can work even if they are different. It works better than a bridge. It chooses short paths for data transfer so that more work can be done in the least amount of time.

6. Repeater :

When information signals are sent from one place to another, the signals get weakened. Use a repeater to convert them. Signals received from one network are sent by repeaters to another network. These signals can be in the form of data or voice. The repeater mainly works at the bit level. Repeaters can work between two networks only if the working mechanism of both the networks is the same; That is, the computer and the software located in it should be the same.

7. Gateway :

Its working system is of a higher level than routers. It can also interconnect two different types of networks. If you have a network that has many different sections, such as a Unix system and the other is a DANCE, then a gateway is used for networking between them. A gateway is a system that consists of a special type of hardware and software.
